Life As a Mall Brat

  • Kolman & Reeb Gallery 1500 Jackson Street Northeast Minneapolis, MN, 55413 United States (map)

LIFE AS A MALL BRAT is a solo exhibition featuring drawings, sculptures, and an interactive video installation exploring identity and memory through the lens of the artist’s childhood experiences of a shopping mall in Duluth, Georgia. Chris Rackley uses the phrase “Mall Brat”, a parallel to Military Brat and the concept of the Attached Traveler, to describe how he followed his father, who managed a chain of mall-based shoe stores, through South Carolina and Georgia as new malls opened throughout the region in the 1980s. In this exhibition, Rackley recreates miniature versions of architectural elements and objects he saw everyday for ten years as he wandered mall spaces.

This exhibition is generously supported by a Kolman & Reeb Gallery Project Space Grant.
