Haiku House Project is a collaborative community project produced by Chris Rackley and is part of Artists Respond: Combating Social Isolation, a project by Springboard for the Arts .

Art Kits, including materials and instructions for making paper puppets, were produced and delivered by Chris Rackley to participating households. Additionally, participants received green poster board and instructions on setting up DIY greenscreen studios in their homes and filming their puppets with smart phones. Participants assembled and decorated their paper puppets, wrote poems, and filmed their performances from the safety of their homes, December 2020 – January 2021, during the COVID-19 lockdown.

Each puppet video was combined by Chris Rackley into an animation depicting a neighborhood of talking houses taking turns to recite an original poem about the experience of sheltering-in-place during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Special thanks go to Kjellgren Alkire and Alyssa Baguss for their feedback and advice during project development.
